Thanks to the appointment of a new Pre-K outreach manager, we are already more than halfway to our goal of adding 500 new patients during the 2016-17 school year.

Our new outreach manager’s position was supported by a generous three-year grant commitment from the Murdock Charitable Trust, which has empowered Smile Partners to meet a growing need among preschools for comprehensive preventive dental hygiene services.

So far this school year, Smile Partners has added 17 new preschools to bring the total number in the Puget Sound area to 77. We now have 24 sites in King; 30 Kitsap; 21 in Snohomish and 2 in Mason County. The total number of new patients at the 17 new sites is 296.

The new sites are in several Puget Sound-area counties with the largest number of new schools coming on board in Snohomish County. Smile Partners added 9 new sites there, followed by 5 in Kitsap, 2 in Mason and 1 in King County.

Smile Partners’ goal is to ensure more preschoolers have access to preventive services such as screening, fluoride varnish, oral hygiene instruction and referrals for restorative care. In three years, it wants to double the number of young patients in the Pre-K program to 3,000 from the 1,500 it served during the 2015-16 school year.
